about me

I was born in 1974 and raised in Lancaster, PA. Since I can remember, I’ve always had a passion to draw and dreamed of becoming an artist. Throughout my childhood that dream was encouraged by family and mentors at the local Boys & Girls Club. I was hooked, and art stuck with me throughout my years of schooling. After graduating from high school I knew deep down inside that art was the way I wanted to try to make a living. After some soul-searching, that desire led me to attend Pennsylvania School of Art & Design and I received a graphic design degree in 1998. Since then, I’ve worked as a full-time graphic artist within the newspaper industry, while also attending classes and workshops to pursue a second career as a portrait and still life artist. I currently live in Albany, NY.

artist's statement

I’ve always been fascinated by how different people look and how their body language and characteristics tell so many different stories. It’s what drew me to portrait painting. The commitment and trust between artist and subject helps create a unified vision. I love the challenge of working with oils to capture the spirit and personality of a subject or the shimmer of reflective light on a silver pot. My still life images are of everyday objects I choose for their storytelling, simple appearance or complexity. I pay homage to the traditional style of realism using classic techniques of the old masters. I offer my subjects a sensitive, skilled eye with the aim of capturing their depth, personality, and being. I strive to inject life and vibrancy with every brushstroke I paint onto the canvas.
